I managed to get hold of the premier screening tickets for Dragonball Evolution and watched it 2 days before it was first released in the cinemas which was earlier today. It was said to be the FIRST official screening worldwide, so many securities before the movie, we even have to surrender our handphones and cameras omg! But too bad, it was just a Dragonball movie lolol~
*Warning*
If i spoiled the movie for you later on, i apologize but blame it on yourself first because you chose to read this entry ahah! You still have time to skip this entry below

Anyway back to the review. To be truthful, looking at the casts before the movie was released, i was already hoping for the worst before i stepped my foot into the cinema hall during the premier screening. Then when the show started reeling, i was suprised to see Stephen Chow’s name in the movie. I didn’t know he was one of the producer lolol. Well, that explains why the movie is somewhat lame and funny here and there i guess.

The storyline was too short and simple. It was as if they were rushing to finish off the movie. And the plot changes a lot from the original. While watching the movie, i thought how they could have added some elements here and there, adding some scenes in between to make it more interesting and so on. I think they could have made the movie a good one (despite the unoriginal-looked actors lol) if they probably get more budget or adding more stuff into it and maybe made it like a continuing trilogy such as the Harry Potter series 1,2,3,etc.. I really really think that there was so much more to add you see.

Besides that, Goku studying in an american high school? Compared to the original anime, he wasn’t even in a high school lol! In this movie, Goku was a playful kinda person. He tries to cheat during training, using a girl as a motivation in training just to get close to her and so on which is different from the original Dragonball series lol~ (you’ll know what i mean if you’ve watched the movie)
And did Goku got killed by a gunshot and got resurrected by Roshi by a Kame Hame Ha?!? LOLOL! Wazzdizzweyhh~

The romance was too cheesy. The start of this movie, you don’t see anyone coupling with each other. The end of the movie, you can see 2 couples already. It’s so simple, just a few conversations and scenes and they fell in love with each other wtf. If the same thing were to imply in this real world, hohoho~ =X

The CGI effects in this movie were promising, although i think they kinda overused it throughout the movie as well. Goku seems so unnatural and so American-ised that his Kame Hame Ha move was so lame lol! Especially the chant he used during the summoning of the Shen Long almost the end of the movie. Omg i LOLed at that ahaha! It just sounds too weird. Bad lines, bad dialogues.

And now the appearances! One thing for sure is that the actresses are hawt ahah! Chi Chi and Bulma!~ (=
And Justin Chatwin looks good playing Goku too, although it’s just kinda weird lol. Piccolo looked like some Star Trek ugly character ahah.

For those all-time hard fans of Dragonball series, this movie might disappoint for you guys. But well, although the movie wasn’t really good but i think that an average movie is at least better than a bad movie. And Dragonball Evolution – i think it’s an average one for me. It sure wasn’t a great movie, but at least it’s entertaining and fun to watch in my opinion. Maybe it was those funny scenes that made me laugh which really helps.
My verdict? 5/10 (Yes, i know i’m kind in giving ratings
)
Ohh nonetheless, thanks Nuffnang for the premier screening tickets. If it’s not because of the free tickets, i wouldn’t have watched this movie and do this review anyway ahah! I’d most probably spend the movie ticket money to buy a McDonalds set meal instead lmao!
Okayy one last picture,
dedicated to those Jamie Chung & Emmy Rossum fans out there!
