Take note that my BlackBerry Torch 9800 blog posts for Maxis10 is be divided into four parts:
Overview
Top BlackBerry Apps
BlackBerry Torch Camera
BlackBerry OS6 + Final Words
(coming soon!)

So some of us were given the opportunity to be one of the very first in Malaysia to experience the latest BlackBerry Torch 9800 by Maxis.

The latest one from Research in Motion (RIM), the BlackBerry Torch 9800 smartphone was announced months ago with much hype and anticipation. It is the first phone from RIM which comes in a slider form factor and features a clear multi-touch display as well as the usual QWERTY keypad which remains hidden under the display until you push it up.
Now since this is an overview of the BlackBerry Torch 9800, I’ll just introduce some of the main features of this smartphone (if you still don’t know)
.
Honestly, the phone looks big and bulky to me when I first saw it mainly because of the large screen + slide up qwerty keyboard. However once I got used to it, it isn’t really THAT bulky after all. It feels comfortable in hands typing/touching it. Though I’m not fond of the slider because it’s kinda tedious to slide up the screen without accidentally tapping onto the touchscreen (will show you what i meant in the upcoming video).
Phone size:
111mm x 62mm x 14.6mm (slider closed) | 148mm x 62mm x 14.6mm (slider open)
Below is a picture comparing the thickness of the BlackBerry Torch 9800 with the you-know-what-phone-that-is-fully-touchscreen-and-is-always-being-compared-all-the-time hahaha.

On the software side, it debuts the latest BlackBerry 6 operating system (OS6) which seems to perform very well on the BlackBerry Torch 9800. The BlackBerry Torch also supports a unique navigation scheme. Large icons on the home screen make it easy to navigate to different parts of the phone, and are customizable.
On the hardware side, these are some of the main features to be noted:
3.2″ High resolution touch screen (480×360) | decent screen but still smaller than other potential competitor smartphones
Light-sensing and proximity detecting screen | helps save battery by auto-adjusting brightness
Full QWERTY keyboard + Optical trackpad | typical BlackBerry QWERTY keyboard, nothing unusual
5 megapixel camera | with continuous auto focus, image stabilization & flash
and more… that you could find from those well-known technology specifications website…

If you were contemplating whether you’d be more suited to a smartphone with a touchscreen or a physical keyboard, now this might be the phone for you because it has BOTH!
So is the new BlackBerry Torch 9800 featuring the latest BlackBerry OS6 as cool as it looks? Stay tuned for the next post as I’ll be doing a video walkthrough on the latest BlackBerry OS6!
