(ugh, can someone provide me with express how-to-gain-fats method pls?!)

Now that I’m facing the difficulty of growing my body mass, it appears that we all (yes, not just me!) have a global issue to curb here… Food prices increase every season, they’re getting more n more expensive! I used to be able to buy chicken rice for RM3.00 last time, now it’s so difficult to find a RM3 chicken rice meal anymore. Price swings, upswings in particular, represent a major threat to food security in developing countries. Hardest-hit are the poort. In 2010, an estimated 925 million people in the world were hungry or malnourished. It’s pretty sad to hear that everyday there are more than 25,000 people around the world die of hunger-related causes.

Recognizing this issue, the Taylor’s Education Group (TEG) pledged to contribute one million meals to feed the hungry, in conjunction with the World Food Day as part of its CSR project. The TEG World Food Day 2011 took place simultaneously across four campuses – Sri Garden Schools, Taylor’s College Subang Jaya, Taylor’s College Sri Hartamas, as well as my beloved Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus. More than 4,000 volunteers turned up last Sunday for the charity cause event, contributing their time and effort for the benefit of the hungry all over the world.

The Multipurpose Hall of Taylor’s Lakeside Campus was divided into different stations in order to increase productivity. Basically what we need to do was filling up the bags with dried food, checking on the quality and sealing the bags, as well as counting and packing the bags into boxes to be sent out. We know that this ain’t some kinda awesome party or whatnot; however with the upbeat music, loud encouraging cheers and happy people with smiles kept the hall going ‘crazy’ for a good purpose!

I can’t help but to be proud of saying that I’m part of the large pool of TEG volunteers along with some of my classmates that day to pack food for the hungry!

With all the volunteers from all walks of life working hard on a Sunday, we’re all proud to say that we’ve done our goodwill to pack 1 million meal packets within a day! In fact from what I heard, it was 1 million meals within 8 hours of hard work! Awesome job everyone, especially Taylor’s Education Group (TEG) for organizing this charity cause campaign!

The finished food packs were then distributed to crisis-burdened areas or school feeding programs locally as well as around the globe including Somalia.

These are few pictures from the open day held earlier, looked awesome right? Heck, they even hired a Taylor’s University hot air balloon just for the open day! Hmm, I wonder how much does it cost anyway.

Since I’m a current student in Taylor’s School of Communication pursuing Bachelor of Arts (Communication & Media), it would be sensible that I introduce you to some of the places that Communication students would always hang out throughout the study period at the Taylor’s Lakeside Campus.

I’ve brought many friends to Taylor’s Lakeside Campus library and many have said that they are impressed and in awe of the library! Some even told me they wish to transfer to Taylor’s University because the 4-storey library itself is already so damn cool, packed with various facilities, resources, computers, and many more! There are also various types of closed discussion rooms and study room in the library itself which allows you to have discussions among your friends without interrupting other people in the library.

Apart from that, they also have this 24/7 study room beside the library where the place is actually opened 24 hours everyday for students to study! So if you’re facing an exam the next day and you’re afraid that you might wake up late, come early to 24/7 study room the night before! Haha I’m just telling you an alternative, don’t overnight at the study room everyday okay?

Most of the time apart from having classes in classrooms and lecture halls (and chilling out in the library during free time), I spent a lot of time in the computer lab / media hub / iMac studio or whatever you wish to call it. Be it for classes or just chilling out, it’s a suitable place to stay in to log on Facebook do your assignments. They are meant for us Communication students to make use of; I mean, hospitality students don’t need to use Mac, business & accounting students don’t need to use Mac also, architecture students use software on Windows, and urmm… others also la you get what I mean? Whereas for us Communication students, we are required to make full use of the iMac provided in certain subjects throughout our course (eg: Music Sound Studio, Intro to Digital Media, News Design for Print and Web, etc.)

Apart from the many many many Mac labs available in the campus, School of Communication also have a few other facilities specially for us to make use of. We have the Audio Recording Studio to hands-on audio production work like the one below…

Audio & Video Editing Lab with well-equipped editing workstations, Newsroom as the workstation specifically for Journalism students, Project Room with various workstations as well as the Propassion Consultation Suite where it is specifically designed for students to experience the real life challenge of a Public Relations consultancy.

Basically, those mentioned were the specific facilities catered for the School of Communication students. Of course, Taylor’s University also provide many other facilities in-campus such as Sports & Recreation Centre (basketball court, futsal court, tennis court, etc.), Student Life Centre (pool table, foosball, table tennis, etc.), Syopz Commercial Block (Starbucks, Subway, Wong Kok, Famous Amos, Old Town White Coffee, etc.)

So I’ve been talking about the super cool facilities provided in Taylor’s Lakeside Campus all these while, it’s time for me to briefly introduce the School of Communication program. Thus far, they are offering four courses:

-  Foundation in Communication
-  Diploma in Communication
-  Bachelor of Arts (Communication & Media Management), UniSA Australia
-  Bachelor of Arts (Journalism), UniSA Australia

However, I overheard that there would be new specific major degree courses by Taylor’s University coming up in 2011. Means now you won’t be restricted to only two choices for bachelor degree (like me), but you can now choose to pursue specific major such as Degree in Broadcasting, Degree in Public Relations, Degree in Advertising, etc. All these just when I’m about to finish my degree course, sigh. You lucky bunch of new Taylor’s University students, you better appreciate this opportunity lol.

Ohh yaa, that’s my Unagi Kamameshi @ Sakae Sushi. Two days ago when the college was doing some sort of firedrill practice thingy, a bunch of us went to Sunway Pyramid to have lunch instead of staying and ‘participating’ in the firedrill lol.

This was also during the same day but at night. Went for a gig to support An Honest Mistake band performing @ Urbanatics, Capsquare KL. There were other solo and band performers as well, there were actually some sort of gig competition held or some sort. And guess what? An Honest Mistake made it thru to the finals next week which is kinda expected after watching the rest of the bands perform lol (=

WHY IS MALAYSIA SOOOO HOT EVERYDAY!??!?
It’s either damn hot kao kao in a day or rain heavily kao kao aihh~ Spoil mood wan.

Omg it was so freakin’ hot that day, i sweat-ed kao kao non stop, and what’s more? NEW pimples came out the next day after the Mass Colympics!!! @.@

Anyway it was my first Mass Colympics since i joined Taylor’s last year. Organized by the Final Year Diploma in Communication students.

Not bad la, i think it’s abit kelam kabut in the morning, eventually made it through the flow throughout the afternoon i guess. Ohh and i also heard from my classmate who stayed till the end that day, that there were a few bands playing at the stage but no one were there spectating it, all busy doing their own stuff or activities going on at the same time. Damn kesian sia sui kan? LOL

So what’s the agenda? What’s up with Mass Colympics?

There’s this autograph session with the ‘overrated’ Allan Wu.

People were like queuing up to get a picture and an autograph from Allan Wu but Rashid Salleh was pretty much left alone wandering around the venue. Go line up and take autograph from Rashid Salleh instead man. Nicholas even said that Allan Wu couldn’t even reach the top of the MINI rock climbing, instead Rashid Salleh who had dressed in pretty much an office wear kinda outfit managed to get to the top. What’s this man Allan Wu? You’re supposed to be FIT!

Anyway there were few games during the Mass Colympics.
Paintball was one of the popular ones among the students.

But i didn’t know where were the other games held at that time so didn’t bother going anywhere further ahah. Damn hot laa malas wanna walk far far.

Instead, halfway thru the event i met Albert and he pinjam-ed me his Carl Zeiss 135 1.8 lens.

So what to do? Make use of the long range and skodeng people laa ehehe!

After that, i hitched a ride onto maRCus’ car and headed to St. John’s Institution Family Day.

Went there to meet some ol’ high school mates, lepak lepak and stuff like that. I think that SJI Family Day ’09 was boring as compared to the previous one when i was form 2 or 3 forgotten lol, i don’t know about others.

I didn’t regret going for Taylor’s Mass Colympics after all. Got to meet some people i know whom i’ve not met in real person before and also got to use Albert’s CarlZeiss 135 1.8 lens (damn nice i suka but no money buy ahah).
