why am i starting to blog again.

Blogging again? Isn’t blogging outdated? Do people still read blogs?

We all know that someone who used to be a blogger (or at least, has a blog somehow). I started blogging back in my final year of high school (circa 2007) – documenting whatever that happened during school as a diary note to myself. The initial thought of blogging back then for me was purely just for the sake of documenting. Somehow it was sentimental (with a sense of judgement on how I used to write my blog posts last time) reading through my old blog.

After high school, blogging had gotten so commercialized (like how Youtubers, Instagrammers and TikTokers are right now) through advertising companies such as Nuffnang, Advertlets, Innity and so on. It was then that I found opportunities to be leveraged through my blog – whether it’s movie screening, product sponsorship, exclusive event invite, travel opportunities on top of the monthly paycheck (not too big of an amount but it’s considered really good for a student like me). Unfortunately through those times, I had slowly lost the mojo of writing my blog posts consistently and lost the purpose of why I started blogging in the first place. Blogging didn’t seem like a priority anymore as you progress with the times and into new avenues (for me, it was when I started making videos on The Ming Thing Youtube channel). Eventually I deleted my blog, which I wish I didn’t now haha.

Now the year is 2020 – with the same domain name (bryanlyt.com), my hope is to get back into writing as a form of expression. I’d like to share my thoughts, personal and work experiences, struggles to learn from – getting back to the roots of why I started blogging back in 2007.

The goal now isn’t to attract more visitors to my website; whether it is through my experience sharings, my mistakes, my random musings – the aim is to spark that one random person who is going to read that one article that I am going to be writing in future and potentially change his life for the better with a tiny spark of thought.

Hello 2020, let’s do this.
